FALA Volunteer Corps
Yesterday, at Coconino High School, the FALA middle school Robotics Team, The FALA Llamabots, took the Championship title at the First Lego League Regional Tournament and earned a spot at the State Championship Tournament at ASU in January! The FLL tournament was hosted by the Coconino Coconuts and over twenty teams attended.
Teams competed in four areas: Robot Game (students spent the entire first semester building and programming a robot to perform specific tasks), Core Values (things like being a team, having fun, discovering, and coopertition), Project, and Robot Design. The tournament was an amazing experience for the students and all of the teams in attendance performed really well and brought incredible energy.
This year’s FLL theme was “Animal Allies” and The Llamabots picked California Condors for their project. They made an engaging and imaginative PSA to inform hunters that California Condors are threatened by extinction and hunters should switch from lead bullets to copper bullets because the biggest threat to the California Condor reintroduction is deathfrom lead poisoning that occurs when the Condors eat the leftovers from game that has been hunted with lead bullets (ask them to sing you the catchy jingle they wrote as part of the PSA).
